Town hall held to discuss financial solutions, potential closure of Port Matilda EMS
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A town hall meeting was held in Centre County Tuesday evening, at the Huston Township Community Center, to discuss the funding issue affecting Port Matilda EMS.
The EMS service is asking for more financial support from the municipalities they serve.
Officials say grant money they just received cannot be used for payroll purposes.
"In the shorter term, we have moved ahead our full year's payment to the EMS so they're going to be getting their full year's donation up front, so hopefully they'll be able to keep the doors open longer. For a long-term solution, we've started to look at an emergency services tax to provide additional funding, this is not going to happen until next year at the earliest."
A few years ago, Port Matilda EMS had a staff of 10, but now, officials say they just have a staff of two.
