A native of California, Gretchen Rossi grew up just outside of Los Angeles in La Crescenta. She went on to study Psychiatry at Baylor University in Waco, Texas but decided to pursue a career in the real estate industry instead. After her fiancée Jeff — who was 25 years her senior — was diagnosed with cancer, she quit work to care for him full-time until his death in 2008. The same year, she rose to prominence on ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County.’ In 2013, Gretchen became engaged to business consultant Slade Smiley, and after years of failed IVF treatments, she gave birth to their first child, daughter Skylar Gray, on July 10, 2019 via C-section. She returned to the reality series in 2017.
